POWERFUL VOICES
Powerful Voices creates brave spaces with BIPOC girls and gender expansive youth to take charge of their own power as leaders, igniting their abilities to confidently express themselves, build community, and act against injustices affecting their lives.
ACTIVISTAS (AVs) PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Activistas (AVs) is a 14-week internship program of Powerful Voices in which BIPOC girls and gender expansive youth age 14-19 engage in self-exploration, dialogue, community building and project development rooted in social justice values such as healing justice, intersectionality and collective liberation. As an Activista you will learn directly from people in community and each other about different possibilities and ways of being involved in social change work. You will step into the power of your voice and experiences as you turn your individual passions and strengths into collective action, ultimately presenting on a topic(s) of your choice at a culminating event at the end of the program
This is a unique type of internship that prioritizes community and leadership building
Project examples: teach-in, open mic, protest/action, zine, workshop, documentary, clothing swap, art piece

COMPENSATION
$1600 stipend (paid in three in installments)*
Meals provided throughout the program
Some transportation support as needed (limited availability)
*Stipend payment is contingent upon attending sessions and completion of culminating project
ELIGIBILITY
Current or incoming high school student age 14-19
Live or attend school in King County
Homeschooled youth are welcome to apply!
Provide school or photo ID (for age and grade verification purposes)
Willing to commit to full program schedule
Agree to and sign Powerful Voices' COVID Safety Liability Waiver
COVID SAFETY PROTOCOL
Masks during program hours, with the exception of activities that are held outdoors which will maintain a safe distance of 6 feet.
Temperature checks to screen for fever (temperature equal to or higher than 100.4𝇈F)
Social distancing of at at least 6 feet
Hand washing and sanitizing
COMMITMENT
14 week commitment (some off-days)
Tuesdays + Thursdays 4:30 - 7pm
4 Saturdays- times will vary between the hours of 9am - 4pm
1:1 sessions with Katrina (Program Manager) and your adult ally
Some work time outside of program sessions
END GOAL: Co-create a project you will present at a culminating event at the end of May
