Have you been searching for an opportunity to use your passion for social justice and community change? Are you looking for a space that will support you and challenge you to step into the power of your voice and experiences?
As an Activista, you will participate in a community of high school age youth and adult allies that will delve into social justice issues facing girls and gender-expansive youth of color. You will learn from guest speakers, go on field trips, and develop a project to be presented at a culminating event. If you are a young person who is looking for a creative and affirming space to explore your role in social justice and to carry out an idea or project you already have in mind, read on!

POWERFUL VOICES
Powerful Voices creates brave spaces with BIPOC girls and gender expansive youth to take charge of their own power as leaders, igniting their abilities to confidently express themselves, build community, and act against injustices affecting their lives.
ACTIVISTAS (AVs) PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Activistas (AVs) is a 16-week program of Powerful Voices in which BIPOC girls and gender expansive youth age 14-19 engage in self-exploration, dialogue, community building and project development rooted in social justice values such as healing justice, intersectionality and collective liberation. Activistas will step into the power of their voice and experiences as they turn their individual passions and strengths into collective action, ultimately presenting a project on a topic(s) of their choice at a culminating event on July 27, 2024. All Activistas will be paired with an Adult Ally who will learn alongside you and support you in planning and carrying out the project you decide on.
Project examples: teach-in, open mic, protest/action, zine, workshop, clothing swap, art piece

VIRTUAL ORIENTATION FOR ACCEPTED APPLICANTS: April 3, 2024
PROGRAM DATES: April 17, 2024 - July 31, 2024*
*1 week break in June

COMPENSATION
$1600 stipend (paid in three in installments)*
Meals provided throughout the program
Transportation support as needed
*Stipend payment is contingent upon attending sessions and completion of culminating project
ELIGIBILITY
Current or incoming high school student age 14-19
Live or attend school in King County
Homeschooled youth are welcome to apply!
Provide school or photo ID (for age and grade verification purposes)
Willing to commit to full program schedule
Agree to and sign Powerful Voices' COVID Safety Liability Waiver
COVID SAFETY PROTOCOL:
Masks during program hours, with the exception of activities that are held outdoors which will maintain a safe distance of 6 feet.
Temperature checks to screen for fever (temperature equal to or higher than 100.4𝇈F)
Social distancing of at at least 6 feet
Hand washing and sanitizing
COMMITMENT
16 week commitment (some off-days)
Mondays + Wednesdays 4:30-7:00pm
4 Saturdays: 4/26, 5/18, 6/29, 7/26 - times will vary between the hours of 9a-4p
1:1 sessions with Katrina (Program Manager) and your adult ally
Some work time outside of program sessions
END GOAL: Create a project you will present at a culminating event on Saturday, July 27, 2024
