restorative practice
is the fabric that holds the space of healing and wellness in balance. It is at the intersection of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual healing and wellness.
what is healing justice?
“Healing Justice” is a political strategy conceived in 2005, and formally launched in 2006 by the Kindred Southern Healing Justice Collective to intervene and respond on generational trauma and systemic oppression, and build community/survivor led responses rooted in southern traditions of resiliency to sustain our emotional/physical/spiritual/psychic and environmental well being.
TAKING ROOT
Powerful Voices’ Healing Justice Initiative
Powerful Voices’ Taking Root Healing Justice initiative was created in response to the mental health crisis that BIPoC girls and gender expansive youth are experiencing in our communities. This initiative is designed to support BIPoC youth, their families, and the phenomenal youth advocates experiencing burnout and vicarious trauma. We are all in need of care, rest and a radical reimagining of healing.
We partner with BIPoC girls and gender expansive youth, staff, mental health practitioners, and community partners to develop and integrate mental health supports that cultivate healing-centered, trauma-informed and culturally responsive best practices. We foster healing spaces where young people can root themselves in ancestral healing practices and create their own narrative to promote liberation from generational trauma, systemic violence, and oppression.
An introduction to our Taking Root Healing Justice Initiative, co-curated by youth Healing Justice Fellows, Jwan, Ahlaam, and the Healing Justice Team!

Taking Root Network
Often young BIPOC girls and gender expansive youth are unable to find healing and wellness practitioners that affirm their identities and attend to their unique needs. In order to combat this, we actively build partnerships with healers and organizations that work with a culturally responsive, anti-oppression framework. If you are a BIPOC healer, wellness practitioner, or organization, we would love to connect with you! Email Leanne or Jen to set up an introductory conversation and see how we can potentially collaborate!
Taking Root Vouchers
Two years ago, we were able to pilot a program where young people received vouchers for sessions with culturally responsive wellness practitioners and healers. Healers in our network range from therapists and counselors to holistic healers who practice with energy healing, sound healing, and other forms of healing! Unfortunately, we no longer have the grant that would enable us to provide this service, but we are actively looking for alternative funding to bring back this important offering! If you are interested in helping us bring back this program, contact Leanne or Jen!
