Girlvolution
Call for Collaborators
Saturday & Sunday | August 9 & 10 | Langston Hughes Performing arts INstitute
On August 9-10, Powerful Voices’ Girlvolution takes over the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute to celebrate community, culture, and care! This social justice celebration is brought to you by our very own Youth Engagement Board–a group of 7 youth leaders on a mission to create a gathering for young people to nurture their roots, freely express themselves, and build a community of powerful youth leaders. Join us for a weekend of fun, connection, and inspiration as we work together to build collective power in our communities.
Be a part of the Girlvolution! The call for collaborators is now open through Friday, May 17. We have opportunities to host a workshop, share wisdom on a panel, perform, table or vend at our Opportunity Fair, facilitate a healing offering, and submit art!
Below you will find the Girlvolution schedule & more information on the different ways you can collaborate. To apply, please submit a form at (insert bit.ly link). Interested in collaborating in a way not listed below? Please email us at girlvolution@powerfulvoices.org to share your ideas!
We are hosting two virtual info sessions to learn more about the different collaboration opportunities

PROGRAM SCHEDULE
In dreaming up Girlvolution, our Youth Engagement Board co-created the following purpose and values. If any of these below are in alignment with your personal/organizational missions, we encourage you to apply. While applications are open to everyone, we will center and prioritize BIPOC girls & gender expansive youth involvement, leadership, and collaboration at our event.
Our Shared Purpose
Nurturing Our Roots
We nurture our communities in feeling grounded, self-assured, connected, and rooted. We are gathering resources around wellness, mental health, and learning how to grow and adapt to change. We are building pipelines for mentorship and community support from adult allies. We embrace our cultural traditions in rooting ourselves and building resilience. Together, we learn to navigate our challenging and complex world.
Expressing Ourselves
We celebrate our rich cultural traditions while expanding and honoring our own uniqueness. We are creating space to speak our truths and share our emotions. No more bottling things up or being silenced. We use creativity and arts to show the world who we are and nurture our spirits.
Building Powerful Youth Communities
We are more powerful together. We bring each of our unique voices together to create a powerful chorus. We weave our individual passions and gifts towards building lasting movements. Together, we build powerful communities rooted in our values of care, compassion, culture, and creativity to TRANSFORM THE WORLD.
Our Collective Values
Caring for Ourselves
Self-love is about honoring our whole selves–our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual/social needs. Nourish yourself by creating opportunities to promote long term wellness and well-being.
Compassion in Action
Take action to meet our collective needs by making sure we all feel safe and cared for. We hope this leads to the protection of the spaces that honor our cultures - especially BIPOC and other marginalized cultures.
Celebrating Our Diverse Cultures
Be you, boo! Honor diversity in the community by embracing different cultural perspectives so that we all can show up as ourselves with the cultures and identities that are important to us.
Creativity beyond conformity
Practice expressing your full, multifaceted self and think outside the box. Honor artists and artistry, make space for creation and exploration, and embrace non- conformity. There is no one way to be or act.
