CHIMAERA grew up a shy, introspective, dreamer in 1990’s Hilltop neighborhood in Tacoma, WA. Shortly after receiving a rare opportunity to attend a liberal arts high school in Seattle, they got involved with Seattle Young People’s Project as a youth organizer leading workshops on anti-racism and liberation frameworks throughout Seattle Public schools while working to mobilize students and adult allies to address institutionalized racism in school curricula and discipline practices. Since then, they’ve worked in youth advocacy developing intersectional strengths-based programs and consulted with organizations on racial equity, youth suicide prevention, trauma informed practice, radical storytelling, healing justice and creative facilitation to name a few. They are most fulfilled when they are listening to people’s stories, making films (and food) with friends, reading up on astrology and bearing witness to inspiring Black, Brown and Indigenous young folx rising up against these oppressive systems that are no match for their innate genius. Asé!
